Happy 25 Year Wedding Anniversary | Norma + Javier

I've been thinking about writing this post for a few days already and I've been stumped on where to begin.  Do I begin to tell you they first met when she was a baby and he a toddler? Do I fast forward to when they met again, 20 or so years later? Do I begin on their wedding day, 25 years ago today? No. This is not just a story.  It is not just a list of chronological events that brought us to this day.  No. It is much more than that.  It is a story about love.  More than a story, it's a life.  A life story that began when 2 people vowed to love each other and stand by each other no matter what.  And, it just so happens that these two people are 2 of the people I love most in this world.  They are my family.  My sister and brother-in-law. Norma and Javier were married when I was 14 years old, I stood in their wedding.  Being the moody teen I was, I'm sure I must have thrown some attitude or created some drama that day.  I speculate because I honestly can't remember, but it does seem like something I'd do. I was awkward and a horrible teen, but I remember feeling so happy and proud that day.  I can't really say why, since the day had nothing to do with me. I just felt happy.  I was happy to be a part of my crazy family, happy to be the bride's sister.  I hope I let her know that day. I probably didn't.  Well, I am now.

They celebrate their 25th year wedding anniversary today.  And again, I find myself feeling happy and proud.  Proud to call them my family.  They've been through a lot in their 25 years of marriage but it's nothing they can't handle together.  They stand by each other through good and bad.  While other marriages around them have crumbled through the years, theirs stands stronger than ever.  Their love and devotion to each other and to their family is evident in all they do.

In their 25 years of marriage they have lived in 3 different states, raised 2 sons, gone on cruises, and family vacations.  They've hosted countless dinners.  They've showered so many with their love and generosity.  From different hairstyles and hair loss (sorry I had to go there, Javier!) to the fashions that come and go, from Fast and the Furious to Pitch Perfect, these two know what it means to stick by the one you love.  They've laughed, argued, kissed, and danced together hundreds, thousands of times.

Tonight, I see them sitting in their backyard after dinner.  Javier turns on the fire pit, grabs a Heineken, makes Norma a vodka tonic.  They sit in silence, that good warm cozy silence that only comes from sitting next to someone you love and are completely comfortable and content with.  They sip their respective drinks, say happy anniversary to each other.  And I hope while they sit there that they talk about all the good that's happened in their life.  That they reminisce about all the fun times they've had.  That they laugh at the funny stories.  But I hope they not only remember the good times but that they also dream together about the good times to come.  I hope they dream big about their future together and vow to keep on loving each other through the years ahead.

Girlie and Glam Themed Baby Shower | Las Vegas, NV

In 2014 our good friend, Angie Kelly of Peachy Keen Unions, had her baby boy.  My sister and I hosted her garden themed baby shower and it was such a fun time!  Fast forward to 2016 and now Angie is expecting her baby girl next month!  We couldn't be more excited for her, ok well, I think the grandmas are pretty tickled that they'll have a little girl to spoil now too. Norma and I hosted her baby shower earlier this month and although we thought it would be great to keep it simple since it is baby #2 but we just can't help ourselves!  She's having a baby girl and we may have gone a bit overboard with all things girlie and glam!  The gorgeous floral arrangements designed by Catherine of Layers of Lovely really brought the whole theme together beautifully!  Huge thanks to the grandmothers and Angie's aunt for all the help with food and drinks.  The evening couldn't have gone any better.  It's always so nice to see good friends get showered with love and gifts!  Check out some of the cute details and be sure to leave Angie some love and congrats in the comments ;)

Family Friday | Being Married to Your Best Friend

19AnniversaryblogPost2

August 28, 1996 I married my best friend.  Young and in love, we had no idea what we were getting into!  We just knew we wanted to be together.  We had no idea what the future would bring, but we knew that we'd get there together. Sure, life has had it's ups and downs.  Yes, those first few years were a bit tremulous, but we never gave up on each other.  We never gave up on love.

I could not imagine my life without Jason.  He is my true love, my best friend.  Being married for 19 years to your best friend means you always have someone by your side, someone who's got your back.  Someone who will take you up on those crazy ideas and say, yes you can totally do that.  Being married to your best friend means enjoying the best & worst things together.  Traveling, raising our kiddos, reaching milestones, struggles, successes, failures, victories, they are all shared.  There is nothing more comforting than knowing that no matter what, you are loved.  That is what being married to your best friend is like.  It's knowing you can be yourself, your best self or your worst self, and never doubt that you are loved.  It's falling in love over and over each day.  It's doing little things for each other, like loading the dishwasher at night because the other one is too tired to do it.  It's going grocery shopping for your love because you know it makes her anxious.  It's taking the kids to the park because mommy has to finish reading her book club book.  It's all these things and more.

Being married to your best friend means means not letting our crazy busy life get in the way of what really matters, that is being together.  Because together, together we can do anything.  Together we can handle whatever life throws our way. Together we will laugh, we will cry, we'll fall, we'll stand up taller.  Together we'll make this the best life ever.  Together we will celebrate this life of ours.  Together we will celebrate this beautiful adventure we call marriage.

Jason, I love you more than after every year together.  I love you to the moon and back, to infinity and beyond!  I love that I get to call you my husband & my best friend.
