A Las Vegas Vow Renewal | Ann-Marie + Milo

Ten years + 2 little ones later, Ann-Marie + Milo came back to where it all began to renew their vows to each other and their family! Anne-Marie and Milo own the successful International Wedding Institute in Paris, France, which specializes in vocational training in wedding planning, wedding design, wedding officiating, as well as workshops and optional master classes. We had met years ago when they were here in Vegas, learning about the destination wedding industry here and had kept in touch throughout the years. I was so excited when she contacted us about their trip and plans for their vow renewal.

Ann-Marie had an ambitious plan to capture her family in her favorite Las Vegas locations and ending their day in the same location they got married at 10 years ago. We discussed her ideas, the logistics, came up with a plan that would work well for everyone, and then we totally rocked it!

Our first stop was the Neon Museum! This is one of our favorite locations for an iconic Vegas vibe! It took some time for their baby boy to feel comfortable with us, but by our second stop, he was all smiles! Our second stop was the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, for another iconic Las Vegas destination! At this point, we took a break! It was time for everyone to freshen up and change to their vow renewal ceremony outfits and it also gave the kiddos some down time to relax!

We met up with Norma from Peachy Keen Unions for their desert vow renewal and it was super sweet and intimate. Having their kiddos be present to witness their recommitment to each other was so special and truly a gift. We’re so happy we got to be there to document the moment and capture some fun memories for them to cherish for many, many more years to come!

Family Friday | Downtown Las Vegas Family Portraits

For the past 5 years, I have been photographing Hollie and her amazing kids (well, Bryden isn't a kid anymore!) Let me tell ya, it never gets old! I absolutely love seeing little M get sassier each year.  This year, Hollie wanted to capture a bit more of an urban vibe, so we chose the colorful walls of downtown Las Vegas for our backdrop.  I think the family's outfit choices of black with the pop of pink went really well with the overall look Hollie was going for and I can't wait to see how she uses these for her new gallery wall!

Yearly family photos are such a beautiful tradition.  Not only do you get fresh new photos for holiday cards, but they are a such a fun way to wrap up the year!  These photos will be cherished throughout the years and serve as visual reminders to your memories.

Hollie: thanks again for letting me share in this tradition with you and your family! Love ya!

If you'd like to start a new tradition of your own or if it's just been way too long since you had your last family photos taken, let's chat soon and make some pretty pictures together! I still have a few openings left for family photos this year and I'd love to photograph yours! Email me at jessie@theemerics to get on the calendar!  XO - Jessie

Family Friday | Tips for Looking Your Best during Family Portraits

Every fall season I offer on-location lifestyle family sessions and although they can be lots of fun, some of my families get pretty nervous and if I'm honest, sometimes they seriously dread it! Not only do you have to coordinate schedules and work around nap time, but getting everyone to look great for the photos can also be a challenge!  First of all, I commend you for understanding the importance of family photos and scheduling them even if it makes you a little scared!  Second, I'm going to give you a few tips today on how to get everyone looking great for your family portraits, without making yourself go crazy or spending countless hours on Pinterest

  1. Don't be too matchy-matchy.  It's best to let everyone's style and personalities shine during your family session.  The last thing you want is to look like you're in school uniforms for family photos.  Let the kids wear styles they like and if you make them part of the styling process, especially teens, and you'll get a much better response when getting photos done!
  2. Pick your outfit first.  I'm talking to you mom! Wear something you feel confident and beautiful wearing.  Pick a style or outfit that flatters you and don't overthink it. Don't worry if it's not something that's trending this season.  Classic never goes out of style.
  3. Stick to a color scheme.   Once you have your outfit, the rest of the family's outfits can revolve around you. For example, if you'll be wearing a floral dress, then you can build the color scheme around those floral colors and have everyone else's colors compliment you. This will look put together, but doesn't give the impression that you tried too hard! ;)
  4. Layers and Accessories.  Think scarves, bow ties, cardigans, jackets, statement necklaces, headbands, hair bows, even a cute brooch! These things add dimension and give your photos texture and warmth. These finishing touches help it all come together nicely and it just looks more fun!
  5. Don't forget about the shoes! Often overlooked, shoes can make or break a photo. I recommend staying away from anything too casual, like flip flops, light up character sneakers, or dirty shoes/sneakers.  Stick to shoes that are one color, are clean, and classic.  Boots, Converse, booties, Toms, pretty sandals, wedges, are all nice choices!

Most importantly, have fun! I totally understand how stressful getting everyone ready for family photos can be, but just know that it's totally worth it! Once you're at your session, relax and let the photographer do their job! It may be hard to do, but just know that an experienced family photographer knows what their doing and they usually have a few tricks up their sleeves to get the kiddos to cooperate too!

As a lifestyle photographer, my goal is to capture your family having fun, while looking your best.  I love to create candid moments that include movement, but I'll also capture some modern relaxed and poses for you! I only offer family portraits once a year (with a few exceptions) and this year's availability is very limited. So, if you're thinking of getting family photos done before the end of the year, don't hesitate! I promise, I'll be with you for the entire process to ensure you look & feel your best!
