Destination Engagement Photography Session Ideas

Being Las Vegas photographers, we get a lot of couples from out of town. We have coupes coming from all parts of the country and all over the world and we absolutely love it! We love meeting couples and making friends around the globe! Today I want to talk a little bit about how you can have engagement photos with us even if you’re from out of town and are having a destination wedding in Las Vegas!

First of all, I just want to stress how beneficial having an engagement session is! Engagement photos are not in your wedding attire, so you get some great photos of the two of you together having fun and being flirty in your more natural element. That could be casual and relaxed or a little more dressy, like for a date night. It’s totally up to you and what you feel is a nice representation of who you are as a couple. And, because there’s no pressure of a timeline or family members, cocktail hour, bridal party, etc. we can have so much fun just getting to know each other and taking our time with photos and enjoying the processes. We’ve even been known to stop and grab a few beers mid-session! For our couples of course, not for us! Having this time together really puts you at ease and even more confident in your decision to hire us for your wedding. You’ll have some epic engagement photos to share with friends and family, so they too feel like they already know us on the wedding day. So, come day of, it’s like having old friends there with you capturing your wedding!

So, now that I’ve convinced you that an engagement session is kind of a must-have, here are a few ideas on how you can still get those fun, relaxed, images before your wedding day even if you are coming from out of town!

1. Schedule your engagement session on one of your site visit trips. Most couples will make a trip to Vegas a few months before their wedding day to finalize venue details, such as cake tastings, walk-thru, etc. This is also a great time to have a trial makeup session with your hair and makeup artist. And since you’ll have hair and makeup done, it’s the perfect time to get together and have engagement photos done too! These can be done at your venue or any other location in town! There are tons of options :)

2. Have us come to you. Having us travel to your hometown is a ton of fun. It gives you the opportunity to get some photos on your home turf, maybe your favorite park or coffee shop, the spot where he proposed or where you met, or just in a really cool spot that showcases your hometown. Our travel fees are super reasonable and we don’t even charge a travel fee for most of California, Utah, or Arizona!

3. Schedule your engagement session the week of your wedding day. Most couples arrive in Vegas a few days or even a week before their wedding day. This gives them time to enjoy what they love about Vegas and get some last minute details taken care of too. This could also include hair and makeup trail or even location scouting with us. Again, while we’re at it, let’s get your engagement session photos done and get to know each other better!

All that to say, I’m so excited to share that we’ll now be including an engagement session with our intimate wedding collections too! We already include an engagement session with our traditional wedding day collections, but we realized that our intimate destination wedding couples need engagement photos too! Simply because you are having a smaller, more intimate wedding day, doesn’t mean you can’t have engagement photos. I cannot wait to give all our couples this awesome experience and the epic engagement photos you deserve too!

The Neon Museum | Venue Spotlight

Happy Wednesday, love birds! I'm so excited to be sharing a bit about one of our favorite venues today.  The Neon Museum is such a cool place, especially for those who want a real Vegas retro vibe for their wedding day.  They have several spaces to choose from, with the North Gallery being the most popular!  The North Gallery is a private space where you're surrounded by dozens of vintage neon signs.  You can also reserve the Main Gallery, once the museum is closed to the public for additional photos and/or to host your evening reception.

The space can be reserved for your ceremony for 30 minutes and you can also add an additional 30 minutes for photos afterwards or you can just reserve the space for 30minutes to an hour for your pre or post-wedding photos!

Most of our couples who choose to either have their ceremony at the Neon Museum or their wedding photos, choose it because they want something completely unique! They've already chosen Vegas as their destination wedding or elopement and the Neon Museum really embraces that Vegas Vibe for a lot of people! It's retro, fun, and a little edgy.

Plus, you can also book the Neon Museum for your anniversary session, bachelorette photos, engagement session, vow renewals, or just to commemorate an epic trip with your love and your best friends! You can't go wrong with this as your backdrop!!

One of our favorite things about booking a photo session at the Neon Museum is that it is completely private! We have the entire space just for us! We'll let you walk around and check out the signs and pick out some of your favorites.  We'll take you to our favorites too and together we'll make some amazing pictures for you to share with your friends and family back home! Plus, having the space all to ourselves means no crowds or spectators and you'll be able to relax and share some intimate moments with your love!

So, if you're considering Vegas for your destination wedding or elopement and really want to capture the Vegas retro vibe in your portraits, we highly recommend you check out the Neon Museum and then have us take the photos for you! I promise, we'll'll have a fabulous time and you'll love your photos! XO

Family Friday | Tips for Looking Your Best during Family Portraits

Every fall season I offer on-location lifestyle family sessions and although they can be lots of fun, some of my families get pretty nervous and if I'm honest, sometimes they seriously dread it! Not only do you have to coordinate schedules and work around nap time, but getting everyone to look great for the photos can also be a challenge!  First of all, I commend you for understanding the importance of family photos and scheduling them even if it makes you a little scared!  Second, I'm going to give you a few tips today on how to get everyone looking great for your family portraits, without making yourself go crazy or spending countless hours on Pinterest

  1. Don't be too matchy-matchy. It's best to let everyone's style and personalities shine during your family session. The last thing you want is to look like you're in school uniforms for family photos. Let the kids wear styles they like and if you make them part of the styling process, especially teens, and you'll get a much better response when getting photos done!

  2. Pick your outfit first. I'm talking to you mom! Wear something you feel confident and beautiful wearing. Pick a style or outfit that flatters you and don't overthink it. Don't worry if it's not something that's trending this season. Classic never goes out of style.

  3. Stick to a color scheme. Once you have your outfit, the rest of the family's outfits can revolve around you. For example, if you'll be wearing a floral dress, then you can build the color scheme around those floral colors and have everyone else's colors compliment you. This will look put together, but doesn't give the impression that you tried too hard! ;)

  4. Layers and Accessories. Think scarves, bow ties, cardigans, jackets, statement necklaces, headbands, hair bows, even a cute brooch! These things add dimension and give your photos texture and warmth. These finishing touches help it all come together nicely and it just looks more fun!

  5. Don't forget about the shoes! Often overlooked, shoes can make or break a photo. I recommend staying away from anything too casual, like flip flops, light up character sneakers, or dirty shoes/sneakers. Stick to shoes that are one color, are clean, and classic. Boots, Converse, booties, Toms, pretty sandals, wedges, are all nice choices!

Most importantly, have fun! I totally understand how stressful getting everyone ready for family photos can be, but just know that it's totally worth it! Once you're at your session, relax and let the photographer do their job! It may be hard to do, but just know that an experienced family photographer knows what their doing and they usually have a few tricks up their sleeves to get the kiddos to cooperate too!

As a lifestyle photographer, my goal is to capture your family having fun, while looking your best.  I love to create candid moments that include movement, but I'll also capture some modern relaxed and poses for you! I only offer family portraits once a year (with a few exceptions) and this year's availability is very limited. So, if you're thinking of getting family photos done before the end of the year, don't hesitate! I promise, I'll be with you for the entire process to ensure you look & feel your best!
